It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

An Important Comeback for the Franchise

The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Industry whispers indicate their roles will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.

This represents the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.

The Plot and New Cast

The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

The supporting roles feature several prominent actors in pivotal roles:

• Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

2. Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
